About Us

Before They Met

James Clinton Roderick Odenbach

James has lived in the Sherwood Park area all his life. From a young age, he was fascinated with the world around him and how things work. He continues to learn and puzzle things together through his career and hobbies. Throughout grade school James encountered his love of technical theatre leading him to the theatre production program at MacEwan. With becoming a theatre technician on his mind he worked as an electrician apprentice until hired at Festival Place in 2008. This 500 seat theatre hosts countless concerts and events each year. James is in his element when ideas for the annual musicals are planted and he gets to help make them a reality. He's even made it rain on stage! James also has endless hobbies such as playing piano, eating cookies, cruising in his mustang, landscaping ponds, and programming yearly Christmas light shows that dance to music.

Cara grew up in a small farming town with her twin sister and intelligent brothers who are also close in age. From there she completed an undergrad in Sport, Recreation and Tourism, worked several summers at Camp Caroline, lived in Taiwan teaching English and then finished a Masters in Social Work while assisting youth at risk in Edmonton in various ways. She is now a mental health therapist and is passionate about assisting other's in their healing journey. Anyone who works with Cara can tell you that her favorite population are pre-teens, teenagers and their families. For fun, her first choice is to always call a friend, enjoy a cup of tea, hike in nature, play a game or spend time with family and children she loves.

...and after 10 messages and a 2 hour phone call, they met the next day and have been inseparable ever since.

Together

Cara and James have a playful and chatty vibe between the two of them. Each can bring out the humour of the other and a hunger for learning beyond their individual worlds. Cara has leaned into assisting several of James' hobbies while James has picked up travel and expanded his social world.

James will often say that one of his favourite parts about the relationship is that we connect in a way he never imagined possible and communication is easy while Cara will say that the values James' has and easy going nature gives her more headspace to invest in each other, herself, and the outside world. Common dates include spending time at the piano and in the hot tub, a bike ride in the river valley with a stop at a dock, or exploring something new together while travelling.

Alethea - Maid of Honor

Only 15 minutes older than Cara, this sweet sister has been Cara’s playmate, confidant, anchor, and silly goof partner in crime. The saying use to go “Cara makes the friends and Alethea keeps them” due to her loyalty. To this day Alethea has an incredible way of being a “voice” for Cara and grounds her. And yes, the rumor is true, Alethea’s husband’s name is also James!

Danielle - Bridesmaid

Danielle is located in the middle of this photo. She has been Cara’s longest friend since BFF necklaces were popular. It was love at first sight in Grade 4 and from there she taught Cara what a sleepover was, how to use her voice, how to let go and have some fun, and how to be there for not just the joys but the hard times. You will often hear Cara refer to her as her honorary sister as there is no difference to family other than the DNA.

Claire - Bridesmaid

Cara and Claire met as young adults while serving at a summer camp. Claire is thoughtful, artistic, and warm-hearted. In some seasons these friends have been inseparable as they've played, worked, prayed, and exercised together. Both worked on their masters' around the same time, and Cara sometimes wonders if she would have finished without her favourite study buddy.

Allene - Best Person

James and Allene’s friendship surpasses 15 years. It all started when they were assigned to work along side each other at Festival Place’s Christmas musicals. James and Allene have a ‘vibe’ that’s smooth, efficient, and playful. The friendship evolved when they started a lighting business together and mingled with Allene’s family for hours on end. Allene truly holds a special place in James’ heart.

Scott-George - Groomsman

Scott-George entices James’ creative and playful side. Living 8 doors down the road with similar interests, hobbies, and work, it’s no wonder they’ll refer to each other as “like brothers”. The other thing they have in common is their high attentiveness to their kitty cats. Scott-George will even watch Parker while James and Cara are away. Scott-George has always been there for James with a helping hand and great conversation.

Will - Groomsman

“Younger-me plus outdoorsy” is how James first described Will to Cara. Will strives for excellence in his work and is quick to problem solve and have fun while doing it. Will and James have worked on many projects together and it’s always a blast when Will is there. We know that if Will was not celebrating with us he'd be on an adventure somewhere in the mountains
